EVALUATION OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS’ METAPHORICAL PERCEPTIONS ABOUT THE CONCEPT OF FLAVOR: THE CASE OF AFYON KOCATEPE UNIVERSITY

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the metaphorical perceptions of university students studying at Afyon Kocatepe University. In this study, semi-structured questionnaire was used as data collection technique and applied to 343 people. Participants; Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, Department of Interior Architecture, Department of Economics, Department of Automotive Engineering, 4th year students of Department of Tourism Management. The questionnaire form consists of two parts; demographic variables in the first section, and the open-ended survey question in the second section. The open-ended survey questions are similar “Flavor ………. to / like. Because ……….. it is in.” Data were analyzed by content analysis technique. According to the findings of the study, 343 university students produced 229 different metaphors related to flavor concept. The metaphors produced are divided into several categories taking into account their common characteristics. It has been observed that these categories and metaphors vary in relation to the department where university students are educated. In this sense, it was understood that the concept of flavor could not be expressed with a single metaphor.
