Abstract

While economic integration in a globalizing world makes country economies more interdependent day by day, businesses are also more willing to access opportunities in foreign markets. Psychic distance is seen as an important concept in choosing a target country in line with the internationalization desires of businesses. Psychic distance comes to the fore in choosing and deciding on the country markets in which businesses can carry out their activities and in creating strategies to enter these markets. The aim of this study is to determine the role of psychic distance dimensions in the internationalization process of businesses. Multiple case studies were preferred as the research design. The population of the research was face-to-face semi-structured interview technique with 12 businesses determined by convenience sampling method businesses registered to the chamber of commerce in Duzce province. The data obtained was analyzed through descriptive and content analysis. As a result, while the impact of psychic distance elements on the internationalization activities of businesses is observed, technological innovations and developments make it easier to overcome the difficulties in the internationalization dimension. As businesses increase their working conditions and technical conditions, psychic distance elements become less of a problem for these businesses.
