THE EFFECT OF OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY CLIMATE ON EMPLOYEES' ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT: A RESEARCH ON HOTEL EMPLOYEES IN DIYARBAKIR
Abstract
In order for production to take place, the human factor must be involved in this process. Since tourism is a service-oriented sector, the human factor has become more important than other sectors. The most important area of employment in the tourism sector is accommodation businesses. A large number of people work in these businesses and try to quickly respond to customer expectations. Ensuring customer satisfaction depends on the organizational commitment of employees. Organizational commitment refers to the positive feelings the employee has towards the organization. Occupational health and safety covers the practices put in place to prevent harm to human life. It is thought that the occupational health and safety climate in the work environment affects the organizational commitment of employees. Therefore, the aim of our study is to examine the effect of occupational health and safety climate, which is within the scope of trust climate, on organizational commitment. The population of the research consists of 370 hotel employees working in hotel businesses in Diyarbakır. A survey, one of the quantitative research methods, was used to collect data in the study. As a result of the research, it was concluded that there is a positive significant relationship between occupational health and safety climate and organizational commitment and that occupational health and safety climate positively affects organizational commitment. The study concluded that employees' high perception of occupational health and safety climate increases their organizational commitment.
